Brain chemistry controls violent behavior like Newtown shooting - decades of research has shown
by Talya Dagan
(NaturalNews) The brain governs violent behavior. Research from esteemed universities such as Tulane University, University of California, Stanford University, Cornell Medical Center, Mount Sinai Medical School, University of Pennsylvania, Oxford University, and Yale University have found that the biological and environmental causes of violence are connected. Some of this research dates back to 1973 and was, at that time, published in well-known journals such as Fortune Magazine. Defects in the hippocampus can cause rage, "as if you poured gasoline on a fire-and it went whoosh!" states Benson E. Ginsburg, a geneticist. David Hamburg, who headed the psychiatry department at Stanford University Medical School, estimates that 200,000 potential presidential assassins live in the United States alone. According to Hamburg, "Many manage their delusions on the fantasy level. Others engage in other forms of violent behavior." Authors Vernon Mark and Frank Ervin published a book titled Violence and the Brain. They believe that "Hoping to rehabilitate such a violent individual through psychotherapy or education, or to improve his character by sending him to jail or by giving him love and understanding-all these methods are irrelevant and will not work. It is the malfunction itself that must be dealt with, and only if this fact is recognized is there any chance of changing his behavior."
Abnormal chemicals in the brain fuel violence
Many people with behavior disorders have abnormal levels of copper, zinc, lead, cadmium, calcium, magnesium and manganese in their blood. This nutritional imbalance can easily be diagnosed via tests of blood and urine. Parents, educators and mental health providers need to become aware of the nutritional research, some of it decades old, that can TREAT these individuals, many of whom are currently on pharmaceutical medications that only add to their delusions, suicidal tendencies and impulses to violence.
Unstable brain chemistry will likely be found as the cause of what snapped with the Newtown, Conn. shooter. The ability to commit antisocial behavior and violence against people is not a choice for people with altered brain chemistry. The brain is altered and nothing short of improving the chemicals that improve the brain's synapses will fix the problem.
Gun control or brain control?
Gun control will not help alone, though it might save some lives if access to guns was limited, or if a mental health exam was given to people before they were sold guns, as it is done in other nations, or if a law was passed to prevent those on schizophrenic medications from obtaining guns or practicing at rifle ranges. But perhaps not. Limiting access to guns is a worthy step, but the cause of gun violence is the violent individuals and their altered brains, and only by treating the cause, will violence stop and innocent lives saved.
