Man with concealed gun stops stabbing massacre
by J. D. Heyes
(NaturalNews) As the political debate heats up once more in the wake of yet another shooting massacre, it again becomes necessary to ask the nation to take a collective deep breath and stop to think about the real reason why the founding fathers included the right to keep and bear arms in our Constitution.
Cases in point: Legally armed citizens (and by that I mean Americans who have not otherwise forfeited their rights by committing crimes against civil society) who use their firearms in self-defense, or - even more honorably - in defense of others.
One such case involved an armed Utah citizen who recently used his gun to stop a knife-wielding man who had begun to stab people in a downtown Salt Lake City business.
According to police, the crazed suspect first bought his knife in the store, then immediately turned it on other patrons inside a "Smith's" grocery store.
"He pulled it out and stood outside the Smith's in the foyer. And just started stabbing people and yelling you killed my people. You killed my people," said Dorothy Espinoza.
The man seriously wounded people in the melee, Espinoza said.
"There is blood all over. One got stabbed in the stomach and got stabbed in the head and held his hands and got stabbed all over the arms," she said.
Thank the gun industry and our founding fathers
But before the suspect could sink his weapon into another helpless victim, an armed citizen pulled his gun and stopped the out-of-control perpetrator.
"A guy pulled a gun on him and told him to drop his weapon or he would shoot him," said Espinoza. "So, he dropped his weapon and the people from Smith's grabbed him."
When police arrived, the suspect had been subdued by employees and shoppers alike, according to a report by local ABC News television affiliate KTVX.
Cops were appreciative of the armed man who managed to stop the carnage.
"This was a volatile situation that could have gotten worse," police Lt. Brian Purvis, a spokesman for the Salt Lake City P.D. said. "We can only assume from what we saw it could have gotten worse. He (the Good Samaritan) was definitely in the right place at the right time."
Not to give cops grief because they truly do perform a difficult, thankless job, but opponents of more gun control are fond of using examples such as this one to say, "When seconds count, remember, the police are only minutes away."
Shoppers, too, were understandably thankful, each cognizant he or she could have been the crazed man's next victim. Others were just shaken up.
"Scary, actually. Really scary," said shopper Danylle Julian. "Five minutes before I walk out to my car. It could have been me."
Having laws against self-defense are what's really scary
What the gun-carrying savior did was exactly what our editor, Mike Adams, brought up in response to the recent cowardly killings by James Holmes at the premier of the new Batman movie last month in Aurora, Colo.: Why did no one fight back?
With a little research, Mike answered his own question in the recent Colorado case.
For one, there is no concealed carry law in Aurora, which means, for all intents and purposes, armed criminals (who pay no attention to such laws) can basically operate in a free-fire zone; for another, it is actually against the law to discharge a firearm in public unless you're a police officer.
Some of the victims of the shooting are considering suing the theater for "failing to protect" them. Maybe they ought to sue the city council as well for essentially hanging "No self-defense allowed" signs on every business in town.
