Testament to our electronic age - chin implants on the rise

by PF Louis

(NaturalNews) The urge to look better is usually tempered with the limitations of one's basic physicality. Most of us accept that and choose to alter our appearance minimally, by exercising, weight training and dieting, for example.

Then there are a few who feel the need to go under the knife to change their appearances. Some, whose faces have been seriously scarred by external circumstances, should proceed with reconstructive plastic surgery without a second judgmental thought.

However, many consider plastic surgery for mere aesthetic purposes. This is socially contemptible vanity. What drives one to be vain enough to undergo surgery with its risks and post-surgical pains and problems just to get a better look?

Narcissistic cosmetic plastic surgery fads

Breast augmentation, face lifts and nose jobs (rhinoplasty) have been with us for decades. Movie actors and entertainers have often resorted to face lifts and breast augmentation to maintain an appealing or youthful sexy appearance.

Recently, getting lips puffed up more has become popular, especially among younger women. Sometimes the result is actually grotesque. In most cases, using plastic surgery or Botox injections usually makes the narcissistic attempt to look better obvious and worthy of disdain. Sometimes one winds up looking even worse!

Although sometimes rhinoplasty may be necessary for a severely broken nose, deviated septum or birth defect, often nose jobs are strictly an effort to get the right nose. Part of balancing out facial features to get the right nose is mentoplasty, or chin implanting.

Mentoplasty for chin implants - the latest rage

Need a new chin to look more dominating or attractive on computer screens? An implant can be inserted to make your chin wider or prominent. There has been a surge of chin implants lately, exceeding all other surgical solutions to enhance appearance.

The chin has become a feature of concern among those who rely on internet telecommunications using video. Often mentoplasty is demanded by those who need to appear more authoritative. No weak or overly prominent chins allowed here.

Although often used in conjunction with rhinoplasty to balance out the nose and chin features for that perfect face, recently there's been a demand for mentoplaty only.

The initial consultation determines the size and shape of the implant, which can be either a totally silicone construct or one of Medpor. The favored Medpor implant is made of a porous polyethylene.

It's hard enough to carve into a permanent shape yet porous enough to allow some natural soft tissue to grow into it. Medpor implants are also favored for other facial parts as well.

If infection occurs, an implant may need to be taken out. That can be tricky if soft internal tissue has imbedded into the implant. Medpor implants are designed this way to create stability.

Post surgical pain can continue for several days, along with stiffness and concerns of complications from impact to the area.

The whole procedure from consultation to operation, including required anesthesiologists expense, runs around $5,000, more or less, depending on location and doctor-choice. Liposuction under the chin is often both more cost-effective and less risky.

Usually insurance covers the cost for reconstructive plastic surgery to repair external damage from outer events. Undergoing the expense, pain, and health risks with cosmetic surgery for aesthetic reasons only is rightly considered vain and foolish.

It's better to be healthy and wholesome with integrity than taking expensive chances with your health using surgical interventions to maybe look a little better. Growing old gracefully is mastered by those who lead healthy lives with good hearts and less concern over skin deep appearances.
