Lawrenceburg, Tenn., axes fluoride from public water system
by Jonathan Benson, staff writer
(NaturalNews) The State of Tennessee is on a roll with ridding its public water supplies of toxic fluoride. Lawrenceburg Now reports that members of the board of directors for Lawrenceburg Utility Systems have unanimously voted to stop fluoridating the city's public water supply, making it the third city in the state to pull the poison just in the past two months.
Back in September, Lawrenceburg officials began discussing the idea of removing fluoride from the city's water supply. Roughly one month later, the entire board ended up agreeing that water fluoridation is no longer beneficial, and that if people want fluoride they can get it through toothpaste, mouthwashes, and other sources.
Lawrenceburg was one of several hundred cities and towns that Tennessee State Representative Joey Hensley, MD, had sent letters to back in 2006 urging the removal of fluoride. Hensley's letter pointed out the numerous problems associated with fluoride intake, which include thyroid, kidney, bone, joint, nervous system, and immune disorders (http://www.fluoridealert.org/press/hensley.h...).
"Water fluoridation is medication added to water, as fluoride is the only substance water districts add to water to treat a health condition in our bodies," says the letter. "Giving an unmeasured amount of fluoride through drinking water and not monitoring people's response to it makes no sense at all and violates fundamental principles of toxicology, pharmacology, and ethics."

In early September, the Tennessee town of Hohenwald ended its water fluoridation program (http://www.naturalnews.com/033566_water_fluo...), and just a few weeks before that, the Nashville suburb of Spring Hill ended its water fluoridation program (http://www.naturalnews.com/033479_fluoridati...).
Lawrenceburg's decision will save the town about $22,000 a year, which is what it costs to purchase the toxic fluoride chemicals from the aluminum and phosphate mining industries. The elimination of the poison is sure to also help improve public health in the area, as residents will no longer be forcefully medicated with a chemical known to rot bones, alter thyroid function, disrupt hormones, and damage brain function (http://www.fluoridealert.org/fluoride-danger...).
