Finnish government to cover lifetime of medical costs for children permanently injured by swine flu vaccine
by Jonathan Benson, staff writer
(NaturalNews) Back in September, officials from the National Narcolepsy Task Force in Finland determined that Pandemrix, an H1N1 / swine flu vaccine developed by drug giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), is responsible for causing narcolepsy in certain individuals, and particularly in children. In response, the Finnish government has agreed to cover any and all costs associated with treating the condition in affected children, that go beyond what insurance companies are willing to pay.
The initial report determined that children who received Pandemrix, which was widely administered during the 2009 - 2010 swine flu scare, were nearly 13 times more likely to develop narcolepsy than children who did not receive the vaccine. The research team also found a link between Pandemrix and cataplexy, another type of sleeping disorder, as well as hallucinations and "paralyzing physical collapses" (http://www.thl.fi/en_US/web/en/pressrelease?...).
"The compensation will provide much-needed financial assistance for the families, although it cannot take away the emotional distress caused by this condition," said Paula Risikko, Minister of Finland's Social Services and Health division, concerning the government's compensation plan.
Many major insurance companies in Finland have already agreed to pay for a lifetime of treatment for children injured by Pandemrix, but the Finnish government is simply reassuring the public that, should medical costs ever exceed what the insurance companies are willing to pay, then it will reimburse the rest.
The Finnish Pharmaceutical Insurance Pool (FPIP), which is a cooperative insurance policy that covers injuries and other damages caused by pharmaceutical drugs, has also agreed to cover all costs associated with treating narcolepsy in swine flu-injected children.
Earlier in the year, more than 12 countries reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) that H1N1 / swine flu vaccinations appeared to be responsible for causing a spike in cases of narcolepsy. One of those countries was Finland, which later determined conclusively that swine flu vaccines were, indeed, responsible for the increase in narcolepsy cases (http://www.naturalnews.com/031313_swine_flu_...).
It is hardly the responsibility of government or insurance companies to compensate for damages caused by swine flu vaccinations, though. GSK, in this case, is the entity responsible for the damage caused, and is thus the entity responsible for providing compensation to those it has injured.
