Elementary students fondle breast implants as part of 'Career Day'

(NaturalNews) Some of the parents of children who attend Shady Grove Elementary School in Glen Allen, Va., are up in arms over a recent "Career Day" in which their young ones were exposed to some questionable show-and-tell props. According to a recent report by NBC 12 in Richmond, a local plastic surgeon brought silicon breast implants as part of his presentation, and allowed the young children to touch them.
"I'm still shocked and appalled that my nine-year-old saw and touched a breast implant," wrote one parent on a Facebook post concerning the event. Several others also chimed in that the implants crossed the line, and that school administrators should have warned parents prior to the event in order to avoid any controversy.
School officials did not seem all that concerned about the situation, according to NBC 12, since they largely refused to get involved. A school district spokesperson allegedly denied that there was any legitimate reason for concern, and stated that nothing further would be done.
On the other hand, some parents said the presentation was not specific enough to be at all inappropriate for their children, as many did not even know what it was they were touching. And because implants are also used in reconstructive surgery for women who have had mastectomies for breast cancer, rather than simply for enhancement surgeries, some say they are an acceptable educational prop even if children do know what they are.
The situation does, however, highlight the increasingly common practice of public schools to allow all sorts of questionable material to be presented to students without first notifying parents. In 2009, for instance, school guidance counselors at Moanalua Elementary School in Honolulu, Hawaii, gave young students an inappropriate sex lecture -- which was not related to any sort of legitimate sex education -- that involved talk of sex toys, pornography, and other highly-graphic subject material.
