Can a Vegan Diet Help Our Troubled World
According to Dr. Will Tuttle, "the motivation in living a vegan lifestyle is the yearning to minimize the cruelty our actions cause others. The essence of veganism is nonviolence: conscientiously cultivating a mentality of respect and kindness toward others. If this motivation is absent, it is not veganism, and shouldn't be called veganism."
Dr. Tuttle goes on to say, "veganism is an ideal that is perhaps ultimately unattainable, but that draws us ever onward to greater love and compassion in every dimension of our lives. Veganism is nothing to be proud of. It is the natural flowering of consciousness freed from the continuous programming of the inherent violence in our culture."
The NaturalNews Talk Hour begins this Thursday evening at 6pm Pacific / 9pm Eastern, and registration is FREE. Simply enter your email address in the registration form on the right column of this page and you'll receive call-in details for the show.
Ancient Vegan Wisdom
Dr. Tuttle writes, "With every passing day, it seems to become more obvious: the mentality that underlies our culture's socio-economic system is destroying the biodiversity, climatic stability, and ecological integrity of our earth and poisoning human health and damaging communities and relationships. This underlying mentality is mandated and continually reinforced by our culture's daily meals, in which we're taught as children to disconnect from animals and the suffering we cause them, and see them as mere commodities." Is there a better way?
Dr. Tuttle says, "Our greatest joy comes in helping others and blessing them, and we hurt ourselves the most when we harm others for our own gain. This universal understanding has been suppressed in our culture, and we find the predatory violence of our daily meals projected in technologically magnified ways as cluster bombs, universal wiretapping, genetic engineering, whale-killing sonar blasts, and the commodification of the earth and her inhabitants."
