Our bodies hold the potential cure for the common cold

by Duke Mansell

(NaturalNews) For the first time a team of researchers have been able to show what NaturalNews readers have known for years; the body has the ability to cure itself, even from the common cold! The cold affects an average of 62 million annually with an estimated 1 billion total colds in the US every year. The virus causes untold number of lost days spent resting in bed.

The days of illness may soon come to an end. The study, published this week in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, was completed by researchers at the prestigious Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge. These researchers found that antibodies produced by the immune system are capable of recognizing invading viruses and penetrate cells attached to the virus. Up until now it was believed that the antibodies worked completely outside of the cells; however, this appears to be inaccurate. This is a major break through as we now know there is another line of defense once the virus enters the cells.

Once inside the cell, a naturally occurring protein in the cell called TRIM21 initiates a strong immune response to the antibodies attached to the virus, killing the virus before it begins creating its own viral proteins. Because the antibody is still attached to the virus inside the cell, it is destroyed immediately as a foreign invader, thereby destroying the virus itself. The researchers showed that this process of destroying the virus was completed within one to two hours, a very fast resolution to your cold indeed! This process leaves the cell intact, which is always beneficial to the body.

There are questions that will need further answering. For instance, our bodies have possessed this ability all along and we are just now discovering this process. If this process worked perfectly there would be no cold virus at all because the TRIM21 protein would be destroying every virus entering the cell. Therefore the limiting factor here might be too few antibodies recognizing the viral particles or too many viral agents simply slipping by unlabeled, or both.

The only work currently completed has been on cultured human cells. In the meantime its probably best to stick to the classics: a healthy diet plentiful in fruits and vegetables, exercise, superfoods and supplementation of vitamins and minerals.
