How to Use Your Imagination to Improve Your Life
by Michael Cambray
(NaturalNews) As we grow older there is a tendency to lose sight of the importance of our imagination. We get bogged down with everyday life and forget to use this essential part of our brain. Imagination often gets confused with will power and knowledge, when it is not the same and is actually far more important.
Einstein said, "Imagination is more important than knowledge."
Imagine there is a very long narrow plank of wood in front of you on the floor. If you were asked to walk along it, I'm sure you would have no trouble doing so. Now, vividly imagine that same plank of wood, in front of you, suspended between two buildings fifty stories up. It is the same plank of wood, but your imagination fifty stories up would most likely stop you walking across it. Your imagination will see yourself falling!
This is proof your imagination is more powerful than your willpower. We need a healthy respect for our creative imagination throughout our adulthood. It is the key to learning, which is unfortunately often knocked out of us in childhood by parents, many religions, the media and quite often some teachers.
We must cherish our imaginations and our ability to dream, everything starts with a dream. We go through our lives dreaming without realizing it. When you play sports, drive a car or go shopping you make a mental picture of what you are going to do, without thinking. To do this we program our brain cells automatically. If we say we cannot do something then we will have trouble doing it, when the fact is if we use our imagination and see ourselves doing something, then we will be able to do it.
Try using your imagination by sitting quietly in a comfortable chair, eyes closed, then mentally rehearse for a while whatever it is in your life that you wish to improve -- your friendships, golf game, public speaking, athletics, an invention, whatever. By visualizing, you implant in your mind subconscious improvements in your chosen subject. Always do this where you will not be interrupted.
Walt Disney said he always thought of an idea in one place, visualized in another and worked on it somewhere else, to avoid confusion and keep it fresh. That certainly worked!
Imagination is the secret of all great inventions throughout history. Join the world's successful people. Use it or lose it!
