When authorities searched Shiu's home, they discovered about 450 digital photographs of 19 male patients who were unconscious and undressed in medical examination rooms. Only two of the patients photographed have been positively identified, according to police, but the two identified men were not the same two men who reported being battered at Shiu's home. "You can imagine how shocked they were when we showed them naked pictures of themselves," said Sgt. Herb Walters of the Dublin police department.
Shui came to the attention of police after two men said they woke up at his home last August with no memory of the previous night. The two men indicated that they had drinks with Dr. Shiu. When both men were taken to a hospital, they tested positive for a drug that can be used for memory impairment and confusion purposes. An examination of one of the men indicated that he had also been sexually assaulted.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported that both men had met Shiu at his home with plans to meet friends in Oakland and Emeryville for an evening out in San Francisco. After having a few drinks and after arriving at Shiu's home, however, both men indicated that they had lost all memories past that point, Sgt. Walters told the Chronicle.
Sgt. Walters said it was believed Shiu drove both men to his home after the drinks were consumed, but when the men woke up the following morning, they became suspicious -- and both went to a hospital for an examination.
