Researchers at Chieti-Pescara University in Italy studied four groups of patients with severe microangiopathy-causing leg ulcerations -- which are easily infected and often result in amputation. After six weeks, 89 percent of the patients treated with topical and oral Pycnogenol were completely healed, with patients experiencing a 74.4 percent decrease in ulcer size. The second group, receiving only the oral supplement, experienced a 41.3 percent decrease in ulcer size, while the third group -- topical Pycnogenol only -- had a 33 percent decrease. The control group experienced a 22 percent decrease.
The researchers questioned the patients about possible side effects, including possible allergic reactions, skin alterations or gastrointestinal problems, but the patients reported no side effects. "This news about pycnogenol is very exciting," said Mike Adams, a consumer health advocate and holistic nutritionist. "It is demonstrating, yet again, how nature has already synthesized the most powerful medicine in the world. An 89 percent cure rate with zero side effects is simply astonishing," he said. "There is no known pharmaceutical that even approaches this level of efficacy and safety, and you can bet that if pycnogenol could be patented and sold as a prescription drug, it would be heralded as a breakthrough miracle drug."
Lead researcher Dr. Gianno Belcaro says Pycnogenol -- a powerful natural antioxidant -- heals ulcers by improving blood flow and circulation, which are often hindered by diabetes and can result in limb amputation.
"If left untreated, damage to blood vessels from diabetes then manifests in typical circulatory problems such as hypertension, from which 50 percent of type 2 diabetics suffer," says Belcaro. "Solid evidence shows that Pycnogenol effectively reduces high blood pressure, platelet aggregation, LDL cholesterol and enhances circulation."
