Four essential oils to treat acid reflux

September 23rd, 2015, by

Acid reflux, a disorder in which acids produced by the stomach enter the esophagus, can result in a number of other symptoms like gas, bloating and indigestion. It can be caused by any number of things, such as eating a large, high-fat meal, stress or eating acidic foods.

The good news is that there are several essentials oils, which not only help treat the symptoms of acid reflux, but actually encourage your body to heal.

  1. Ginger essential oil: Ginger blocks the production of acid, is antibacterial and helps prevent ulcers. As a tea, ginger is often used to treat upset stomachs. Drinking a hot cup of water with 2–4 drops of ginger essential oil about 20 minutes before a meal should help to prevent indigestion from acid reflux.
  2. Peppermint essential oil: Peppermint is great for soothing digestive issues. Add a drop of it with some honey and a little apple cider vinegar for a soothing morning beverage to start your day.
  3. Lemon essential oil: Lemon helps temporarily excrete digestive acids, which can help relieve heartburn. It’s also mildly antibacterial and can stave off bad bacteria, so it’s great for cleansing the stomach. Try a glass of water with just a drop for a refreshing drink throughout the day.
  4. Wild orange essential oil: Wild orange will help with constipation, bloating and alleviating acid reflux. Add one drop with honey to some water and enjoy.

Why use medications that often come with more side effects that are worse than the problem they’re treating, when there are natural, holistic ways to treat the problem?
