Dr. Oksana Sawiak discusses gum disease and what underlying infection may be causing this periodontal illness

September 4th, 2015, by

Dr. Oksana Sawiak practiced clinical family dentistry for 42 years, from 1966 to 2008, with a focus on mercury-free, biological dentistry. She is known as a “Health Detective” due to her exhaustive efforts to look at the health challenges a person faces to discover the underlying cause of what may be creating “dis-ease” in a patient’s body. She has attended prestigious and high-profile institutions including the L.D. Pankey Institute, the State University of New York, the University of Detroit, the School of Integrative Biologic Dental Medicine and the United States Dental Institute, to name a few, and she became a doctor of integrative medicine in 2012.

She is the former vice president of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology and was also the past president of the Women’s Dental Association. She is the owner/founder of the Integrative Wellness and Detox Center in Ontario, whose website is YouWell.ca.

Dr. Sawiak helps people with chronic illness, such as gum disease, and seeks to treat people with non-toxic and non-invasive strategies. Gum disease affects 87% of North American adults in some degree and is one of the most common infections in humanity. Dr. Sawiak is focusing her presentation on the urgent warnings about gum disease, what other infections gum disease may be an indicator of and the safest way to eliminate parasites. She will also discuss the best non-surgical gum treatments.

Gum disease may have an underlying, undiagnosed basis. Dr. Sawiak says that it is important to treat the underlying infection in order to treat gum disease, “And what we have found is if we do a microscopic slide and find out what the infection is caused by and treat that infection, we stop gum disease. And to me that’s so basic and makes such sense that I don’t understand why dentistry has not embraced this.”

She also teaches other dentists about the proper way to treat gums and biological dentistry. Dr. Sawiak calls infections, particularly hidden infections, the “robbers of health.” As for Dr. Sawiak’s recommendations, she advises people to remove all toxins from their mouth (including mercury fillings), to remove all toxins from their diet and eat a rejuvenating diet, and in some cases remove teeth that have had root canal procedures.

She encourages people to remember that one’s health is one’s own responsibility, rather than the responsibility of one’s insurance company, government or even their dentist. Dr. Sawiak practices integrative medicine because it does incorporate both allopathic and natural practices. She does use technology in her allopathic practice, but her approach avoids both drugs and toxins.
