Why political correctness is actually a war against women

(NaturalNews) Imagine a group of sexual abuse sufferers who were finally able to let their voices be heard being completely shut down. Imagine that they were told their stories of years of abuse, oppression and suffering at the hands of their husbands and male community leaders were offensive to a group of people and would therefore need to be silenced.

It sounds like something that might have happened 200 years ago, perhaps in another part of the world, but this is something that is happening right now with the Mothers Against Radical Islam and Sharia (MARIAS), whose support group was removed from Facebook on the grounds that it was "Islamophobic." The ever-vigilant politically correct culture that has taken it upon itself to police how certain groups are portrayed in the public discourse, has now decided that a group of suffering women do not deserve their right to be heard.

Toni Bugle founded the group to support all victims of Islamic persecution, and many of the people she has encountered say that authorities and even social services were not willing to help them out of fear that they would be accused of Islamic persecution.

Her account was banned from Facebook after she posted a 20-minute video pointing out the hypocrisy of people criticizing the children's cartoon Fireman Sam for appearing to step on a page of the Koran in one episode, yet failing to raise the same outcry over a 79-year-old woman being raped by a migrant during a visit to her sister's grave. She said that the abuse and deaths by supporters of radical Islam such as ISIS will continue, and she minces no words about who she will hold responsible:

"Other innocent people will die, and it won't be the far right that's to blame, it will be the ignorance of the media, the ignorance of the government and the ignorance of the politicians who refuse to listen to what the people are telling them needs to be done."

Women's rights deemed less important than the rights of other groups

Facebook is essentially stifling women's free speech when speaking out against an ideology that treats them with violence and has no regard for their lives. It should also be pointed out that this group was directing its criticism not at Islam in general, but only at those who subscribe to the most radical and violent interpretations of it. As is often the case in these situations, sensitivity to one group – Muslims – is overshadowing that toward another group – women.

This calls to mind another PC police effort that left women with the raw end of the deal recently: the transgender bathroom at the DNC convention. Instead of building a third restroom to show off their sensitivity to the trans community, DNC planners changed the women's room into a transgender bathroom, while leaving the men's bathroom intact. This is a prime example of the backseat position that women are being placed in by the increasingly overly politically correct left, all in the name of avoiding hurting the feelings of other (usually smaller) groups.

PC police full of hypocrisy

While it is nearly impossible to please every side of a divide, there still needs to be some respect for the fights that have already been fought and won. Women's rights have come a long way and should not be blinked out of existence just because a group has come along that has had its feelings hurt. If a certain group is condoning inhumane treatment to anyone – let alone women – this should be highlighted and discussed in hopes of finding some semblance of a remedy.

Policing our speech is a favorite pastime of the Left, but policing one group at the expense of another is quite hypocritical. While the PC police continue to pressure the media to handle anything even remotely related to Islam with kid gloves, the rest of us will be happy to voice our opinions and ideas and speak up for our rights as we were taught to do for the many years before the PC police decided they were in charge.
