(NaturalNews) Another reason to beware of
the toxic ingredients in your food supply is upon us, this time involving the seafood that's imported into the United States. Seafood has long been the subject of concern, from the
radiation that's lurking in fish affected by the 2011
Fukushima nuclear disaster, to the child slave labor that's a part of the multi-billion dollar shrimp export industry.
However, the latest news concerns the fact that much of the
seafood eaten in the U.S. contains pig feces.
That's right, you just may be ingesting pig excrement with every forkful of tilapia. Lose your appetite yet?
Specifically, the fish coming from tilapia farms in China are fed pig and goose feces. Michael Doyle, the director of the University of Georgia's Center for Food Safety, confirms this, explaining that the manure that Chinese tilapia farmers use to feed the fish is contaminated with microbes such as salmonella.
Why some don't blink an eye about pig feces in your tilapia
Sadly, the disgusting feeding process goes on for a reason that's all too common in society today: profit.
Although feeding fish in this manner contaminates water, and in turn, can wreak havoc on human health, it's desirable because it helps boost business where competition can be fierce. In a nutshell, feeding fish the likes of pig and goose feces is cheap, which allows the farmers to sell the fish at a lower cost, and in turn, increase sales due to the more attractive pricing.
As if it isn't disturbing enough that 27 percent of seafood in the U.S. comes from China, the fact remains that nothing is being done about these horrific processes! According to
Bloomberg Markets magazine, the
Food and Drug Administration only inspects a measly 2.7 percent of imported food. This means that a significant amount of contaminated food is coming into the country, making its way into stores you likely frequent.
Tilapia, shrimp, crab ... The bottom line? Stay away from imported seafood!
Think the problem is only limited to tilapia?
Not at all.
In Vietnam, there are stories of dirty warehouses filled with trash and insects. That's all fine and dandy until you learn that the warehouse is a place where people, who work in these areas (which aren't air-conditioned, by the way) are processing shrimp ... shrimp that rests in dirty plastic tubs that contain ice which was made from unhealthy tap water. The Health Ministry in that country even says that people should boil the water prior to consumption to avoid contamination.
Yikes.
This isn't the first time other countries have been eyed for their unhealthy handling and unethical efforts involving
seafood.
As previously mentioned, slave labor is a terrible problem that's par for the course in many countries. In Southeast Asia, for example, children as young as 13 are trafficked and shipped into Thailand from places such as Cambodia and Myanmar. They're forced to work upwards of 16-hour days in grueling, crowded conditions, where they're told to devein shrimp as fast as possible.
Over in California, there's a ban on commercial crab fishing, but officials maintain that it's due to the fact that high levels of
dangerous algal toxins exist in the bodies of crabs. Despite claims that the Fukushima disaster poses zero threat to the food supply on the U.S. West coast, people know better.
According the radio station 95.1 FM (SuperStation 95), insiders from the California Fish and Game Commission have said that the crab fishing ban was not about toxins in crabs, but rather due to the high levels of radioactivity in them stemming from the Fukushima nuclear disaster. These insiders, as reported by Superstation 95, said that state officials wanted to protect the public from eating the radioactive crabs, yet still remain determined to refrain from publicly admitting that the problem is directly linked to the disaster.
From shrimp and tilapia to crabs and all kinds of seafood in general, the truth is that the fish coming into the United States is toxic. It sits in dirty tubs where young slave workers work long hours in horrible conditions. It's radioactive. It's fed pig and goose feces.
It's disgusting.
Simply don't eat imported seafood. Doing so will not only
protect your health, but will convey your opposition to slave labor and unfair working conditions.
