(NaturalNews) Besides
killing more than 5 million people over the past decade, FDA-approved psychiatric medications provoke another nasty side effect that you probably won't hear about from your doctor -- they significantly increase users' risk of developing cancer.
A team of international researchers recently conducted a systematic review of pre-clinical trials submitted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the licensure of all sorts of psych meds, and what they discovered about these widely prescribed pharmaceuticals may come as a shock to the average person.
All across the board, psych meds from every major drug class were found to be highly carcinogenic, with anti-convulsants and antipsychotics rounding out the list as the most dangerous. And right behind them in being implicated in causing cancer were benzodiazepines and antidepressants.
Published in the
Australian & New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry, the paper revealed the following about psych meds:
• 63.6% of antidepressants are associated with carcinogenicity, specifically mirtazapine (Remeron), sertraline (Zoloft), paroxetine (Paxil), citalopram (Celexa), escitalopram (Lexapro), duloxetine (Cymbalta) and bupropion (Wellbutrin).
• 90% of antipsychotics agents are associated with carcinogenicity, including aripiprazole (Abilify), quetiapine (Seroquel) and all others in this class
except for clozapine (Clozaril).
• 70% of benzodiazepines/hypnotics are associated with carcinogenicity, specifically clonazepam (Klonopin), zolpidem (Ambien), zaleplon (Sonata), diazepam (Valium), eszopiclone (Lunesta), oxazepam (Serax) and midazolam (Versed).
• 25% of amphetamines/stimulants are associated with carcinogenicity, specifically methylphenidate (Ritalin).
• 85.7% of anti-convulsants ("mood stabilizers") are associated with carcinogenicity, specifically valproate (Depacon), carbamazepine (Tegretol), gabapentin (Neurontin), pregabalin (Lyrica), oxcarbazepine (Trileptal) and topiramate (Topamax).
WHO, IARC warned 15 years ago that psych meds can cause cancer in humans
Mind you, these figures were pulled directly from the pre-clinical trial data originally submitted to the FDA prior to the licensure of these drugs. The regulatory agency used these data, in other words, to approve each of these drug classes as safe for patients, knowing full well that they cause
cancer.
This same information is included in the package inserts that come with each one of these drugs, by the way. Users and non-users alike who wish to further verify the legitimacy of the aforementioned statistics can simply pull out the fine print and see for themselves how the West has been duped into believing that
psych meds are safe and effective.
Even the World Health Organization (WHO), through the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), has admitted that psych drugs are probably carcinogenic to humans. The agency published its own research 15 years ago, in fact, pointing out the biological plausibility of psych meds causing cancer in humans.
"There's no free lunch with pharmaceuticals," contends Dr. Kelly Brogan, M.D., a holistic women's health psychiatrist who helps patients come off of psych meds and choose safer, more effective treatment methods as an alternative. "We must disabuse ourselves of the notion that we can yank only one thread out of the spider web. When you pull it, the whole thing moves."
"When you expose your body to pharmaceutical grade chemical influence, it is forced to adjust. We think of these medications as 'fixing' brain problems, but we are just beginning to learn some of the many effects they have on the body as a whole, and the unmapped individual differences in metabolism and toxicant threshold effects, on the body's mechanisms for survival in adversity – aka cancer."
