Idiocracy is here: School lunches served in America now symbolize a destitute nation

(NaturalNews) New Federal school lunch rules, pioneered by the lovely First Lady Michelle Obama, are leaving school children with paltry rations and unappetizing slop. A new photo taken at a public school in Virginia shows one example of what children are being fed under the new USDA school lunch guidelines.

The ghastly five-compartment yellow tray was nearly empty in the picture. Only two slots were filled. One compartment contained a sloppy entree of some kind of hybrid corn-soy meal. The largest compartment in the tray held a scaly slab of fish with some sort of meager bread muffin thrown on top.

The whole food presentation looks disgusting enough to make any school-aged child resort to the nearest vending machine or simply starve himself for the rest of the day.

This meal is exactly what you can expect from a government that subsidizes chemical-based agriculture and franken-foods.

Is this what happens when big government starts to dictate what children eat?

The "food" on the tray is exactly what one would expect from a government that is in bed with big agriculture and factory farming operations. The GMO corn/soy meal on the lunch tray hardly looks suitable for livestock, let alone schoolchildren. The scaly, factory farmed fish slab and subsidized wheat roll are probably loaded with more glyphosate and mercury than actual nutrition.

What can one really expect from a government that subsidizes chemical food operations in the first place?

The picture, taken by a parent at an elementary school in Virginia's Portsmouth Public School system, should sound the alarm from coast to coast that our current food system and government are failing us miserably.

School lunches that look like this should serve as a call to put individuals back in charge of their own food. Federal lunch rules that strip parents of responsibility and take away the choice of what goes into their children's bodies only resemble oppression.

It is time to put teachers and schoolchildren back in connection with the origins of their food and the foundations of nutrition. Slop like this can make children feel like they are in slave camps.

School Food Service Coordinator says the paltry lunch meets USDA guidelines

As soon as the photo started circulating around the community, Food Service Coordinator Jim Gehlhoff started sympathizing with parents and said that the lunch "concerns us." However, parents probably won't see much change because Gehlhoff also defended the school lunch by saying it might not actually be as bad as it looks.

In fact, when the media caught up to him, he said, "Poor lighting and food presentation make this lunch unappealing." He also reassured everyone that the lunch is in compliance with federal lunch rules that were first established by First Lady Michelle Obama.

"The meal in this photo and other meals served by Portsmouth Public Schools meet nutritional and USDA requirements," Gehlhoff said.

This isn't the first time The National School Lunch Program has come under fire. Parents and children are starting to realize that the government cannot save them, cannot feed them and cannot manage their healthcare. Government control of food rations appears to only be oppressing schoolchildren, straight from the meager contents of the school lunch tray.

A one-size-fits-all approach for every school and every child doesn't work. How do the food industry and big agriculture ultimately influence the decisions of policymakers to maximize profit?

How might these federal nutrition guidelines actually be forcing schools to consume mass-produced filler food all under the guise of helping children?

How can school administrators and parents embrace their freedom to help children access nutrient-dense foods and get back to the root of food responsibility? With freedom, schools can erect large gardens and work this important education into the curriculum in a hands-on manner.
