(NaturalNews) When you need energy, you probably think of coffee, soda or another drink with little nutritional value. Unfortunately, these solutions provide only a temporary rise in your energy level and are not all that healthy!

Next time you are dragging, try one of these six fresh fruits. You get a double whammy of an energy boost AND a good dose of healthy nutrients, all for between 80 and 120 calories.

  • BANANAS

The banana will give you instant energy and, unlike caffeinated drinks, is easy on the digestive system. Bananas are also an excellent source of potassium, which is an electrolyte that supports nerve and muscle health. One medium banana has 105 calories - much less than most sugary sodas. It also contains 27 grams of carbohydrates, 1 gram of protein and 0.5 grams of fat.
  • PAPAYAS

Papaya is a beautiful, vibrant tropical fruit that comes with an added energy boost. Packed with vitamins, it is a great defense against the common cold. It has also been shown to ward off the negative effects of secondhand smoke, as well as protect against rheumatoid arthritis.
  • ORANGES

Skip your morning mug of coffee and go for a freshly squeezed cup of orange juice or, better yet, just eat a whole orange. This citrus fruit is packed with vitamin C and natural sugars that will raise energy levels. For energy that lasts all morning, munch on some almonds too. Citrus is in season in the winter, so it is a perfect energy booster during cold and flu season.
  • STRAWBERRIES

Strawberries are a scrumptious way to combat fatigue, and they actually trump oranges in the vitamin C department. Another great strawberry fact? Just like carrots and flaxseed, they can protect your eyesight.
  • PINEAPPLE

Snack on some delicious, juicy pineapple when you are in need of some get up and go. In addition to all that energy, you are getting a bowlful of great vitamins. Pineapples contain vitamins such as manganese, copper and vitamins C, B1 and B6 and are an excellent source of fiber.
  • PEARS

Easy to pack and popular with kids, pears are a great source of energy. If you cannot get your hands on fresh pears, grab some canned and pair the pear with some cottage cheese for a delicious snack or breakfast. You will feel energetic and full all day long.

With such a great list of fruits that can naturally boost your energy level, it might be hard to choose. Go for the best of all and toss together a fresh fruit salad. It is easy to store in your fridge, so have it for breakfast and start everyday with lots of energy. No need to brew that coffee, just get some fresh fruit and feel energetic naturally.
