Political correctness gone wild: Minority lifeguards hired who can't swim

(NaturalNews) How bad does political correctness have to get before more Americans flatly reject it and demand our elected leaders live in the land of reality? How about when PC becomes dangerous enough to kill?

According to a recent Corruption Chronicles blog post over at Judicial Watch, a legal watchdog group that made its name as a thorn in the side of President Clinton, city officials in Phoenix - the nation's sixth-largest metropolis, with 1.4 million residents - have apparently lost their minds.

Espousing notions of "value and respect" for all, which means "more than gender or race," according to the city's website, the city ostensibly also embraces "uniqueness and individuality," a "commitment" to customers and the community, and "differences" - all at the expense of public safety.

"We put this belief into action to provide effective services to our diverse community," says the site.

Seems reasonable and, well, PC, right?

'We don't like that'

Evidently officials are willing to compromise those "effective services" at 29 public swimming pools spread throughout the city. To diversify the lifeguard force, Phoenix will spend thousands of dollars to recruit minorities even if they're not strong swimmers, according to an official quoted in a news report (National Public Radio). Blacks, Latinos and Asians who may not necessarily qualify can still get hired, says the city official who adds that "we will work with you in your swimming abilities."

As I've said often, you just can't make this stuff up.

According to reports, the city sees no problem hiring lifeguards who can't swim or, at most, can't swim very well, because, you see, public pools are used in large part by Hispanics and African-American children - though lifeguards are mostly white. And that creates an issue, apparently.

"The kids in the pool are all either Hispanic or black or whatever, and every lifeguard is white and we don't like that," says a Phoenix official quoted in the story, who added that "the kids don't relate; there's language issues."

Of course there are "language issues," but you can thank liberal, progressive open-borders advocates like this twit for that problem, but that's another issue for another day.

How did it ever come to this? Competitive swimming is a sport dominated by whites. In fact, studies have found that blacks and Hispanics have lower swimming proficiency compared to whites. In Phoenix, public pool lifeguards have traditionally come from "more affluent parts of town" where schools have swim teams. That means virtually no minorities, so the city launched this special program to recruit some.

As usual, a progressive PC crowd has created an issue/problem to match their preconceived notions about how they view life rather than how life actually is. No doubt there are "language" and cultural issues in Phoenix, but this "solution" is as ridiculous on its face as it will be dangerous in practice.

There is also more to it than "race." Much more.

There is more to being a lifeguard than simply knowing how to swim. The "life" part of lifeguard means that anyone performing this noble function kind of has to know how to actually guard a life. CPR courses, as well as knowing how to remove injured swimmers from a pool safely, are among the few skills lifeguards need to know how to proficiently perform.

In essence, then, by hiring unqualified lifeguards of any ethnicity, the city is putting all swimmers in danger - minorities and otherwise. How does that demonstrate a "commitment" to customers and the community at large?

All because these idiot apologists "don't like" the thought of white kids rescuing minority kids? Really?

I am making a prediction: If a minority kid is drowning in the future in Phoenix and the only qualified lifeguard available is white, that minority kid will thank his lucky stars for the rescue, and never once give one thought to the color of the kid who did the saving.

And by the way, the only people who do care are the real racists here.
