(NewsTarget) Hair suffers damage from environmental factors such as pollution, harsh sunshine, wind and harmful products on a daily basis. Hair often gets over-washed and over-brushed, sometimes resulting in oily, limp hair. In an attempt to undo the damage, many spend a lot of money on expensive treatments. However, hair masks and rinses can easily be made from everyday food items around the house, such as lemons, avocados, olive oil and bananas. Get creative and try some natural treatments that will restore hair to shining health without the use of chemically based hair products.

Hair Rinses for Lank, Oily Hair

An excellent rinse for oily hair can be made from lemon juice, which naturally dries the scalp and reduces oil production. Squeeze a couple of ripe lemons into a jug of pure water. Rinse the scalp and hair, distributing evenly. Allow to remain in the hair for a few minutes and rinse again with pure water.

Apple cider vinegar makes a wonderful rinse when combined with a few drops of essential oil, such as lavender, rosemary, cedarwood, pine, or ylang-ylang.

Hair Masks for Oily Hair

Yogurt mask - mix 5 tablespoons of natural yogurt, 1 tablespoon of baking powder and 1 tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice together. Apply to the hair, rubbing into the roots, and leave it in for approximately half an hour. Rinse with pure water.

Lemon mask - mix one egg yolk, 3 ounces of natural lemon juice, and a tablespoon of burdock root oil. Apply the mixture on the hair and leave it in for about 15 minutes. Wash it out with natural shampoo.

Honey and lemon mask - mix one egg yolk with a tablespoon of honey and a tablespoon of lemon juice. Apply it on dry hair and leave it in for about 20 minutes. Wash out mixture with natural shampoo.

Hair Care Tips for Lanky, Oily Hair

Resist the urge to over-wash the hair. Leave hair for a day or two without washing at all. Do not over-brush limp hair since this can stimulate more sebum production, resulting in oily hair.

Eliminate unhealthy foods, sugar and refined carbohydrates and replace with a healthy diet comprising of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and healthy proteins. This will contribute to healthy, shining hair and a scalp free of excess oil. Increase intake of vitamin B and eat lots of whole grains, nuts, seeds, wheatgerm, and green, leafy vegetables. Stay away from oily, fried foods.
