Interestingly, the positive effects of the meditation persisted even four months after the patients stopped the practice, indicating that meditation has substantial long-term effects. Meditation is safe, free, and has no negative side effects. It doesn't even need the supervision of a doctor, which is probably why virtually no doctors prescribe it. Pharmaceutical companies don't make money when people engage in meditation, so there's no reason for them to promote it, either. They'd much rather see people popping pills than promoting something that people can do for free.
