Why is that? Because hamburger buns are really just sugar buns: they're made with refined white flour, which is quickly converted to blood sugar once ingested, resulting in the release of insulin, a hormone that promotes fat storage. And 52 grams is a whopper serving of carbohydrates, too! In fact, I don't eat 52 grams of absorbable carbs in an entire day, much less at one meal.
Low-carb diets are sweeping the nation, and many restaurants -- not just Burger King -- are responding with low-carb menu items. It's good news all around, because low-carb diets really do help people with their weight loss goals, and the more restaurants offer low-carb menu items, the more quickly we're going to be able to tackle the obesity epidemic as a nation.
It's strange to hear me say it, but thumbs up to Burger King!
