Post follows suit and launches GMO-free Grape-Nuts

by Dr. Megan Heimer, NHE, J.D, N.D.

(NaturalNews) First Cheerios, now Grape-Nuts - shopping just got easier for the GMO-free consumer as Post rolls out its revamped version of the popular Original Grape-Nuts cereal, which unlike Cheerios, will carry the Non-GMO verification seal.

"Grape-Nuts Original still contains the signature crunch, wholesome ingredients, and 49g of whole grains you know and love," a company spokesperson stated. "And now the Non-GMO Project seal will appear on our box, confirming our recipe and suppliers do not contain GMO ingredients."

This is a huge win for non-GMO consumers who not only have fought against the government's attempts to keep genetically modified foods from being labeled but have managed to convince another popular cereal brand to follow suit in going GMO-free.

Unlike General Mills, who insists on their website that genetically modified ingredients are safe, has contributed millions to defeat labeling initiatives and states that further removal of GMOs from their other cereal varieties is literally impossible (even though GMOs are banned from the same cereals in Europe), Post gave the following statement when asked about the potential of more GMO-free cereals:

"[W]e are exploring some of our other cereals to see if there is potential going forward to add more non-GMO verified products to the Post Foods product line. We are always listening to our consumers and looking for ways to provide a good variety of products."

Like Post and General Mills, Kellogg is projected to follow suit or miss out on the biggest growing sector of the market. By the end of 2014, Kashi cereals and Chewy Granola Bars will support Non-GMO project verification. Kellogg has stated that in the year 2015 all of the new foods introduced under the Kashi brand will also be Non-GMO Project Verified and at least 70% organic.

GMO labeling initiatives may be defeated by the millions from Biotech and their constituent companies, but the vote of the consumer cannot be beat. Way to go Post for listening to consumers and for giving us a product we want!
