Delicious and Healthy: Try Hemp Protein and Coconut Oil Shake Recipe
by Amielia Ponds
(NaturalNews) This shake is a delicious addition to a healthy diet and also makes for an excellent source of protein for those looking to shed a few points. Both hemp and coconut provide some of the most essential nutrients on the planet. Researchers are now saying that these two foods may be the answer to the world`s food crises, obesity problems, and malnourishment issues in both developing worlds and industrialized nations. (Recipe below article.)
Why Hemp Protein?
Hemp is one of those must have foods for our century. It truly is the master food of the new millennia. Hemp seeds contain one of the most complete protein profiles of any nut or seed known to mankind. They get even better; they also contain the right ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids. Their GLA content is 30% for whole seeds and 10% for protein powders. They taste delicious and nutty and do not overpower the other flavors like some vegetarian shake mixes tend to do.
Why Coconut Oil?
Coconut oil has been shown to improve metabolism within 20 minutes of consuming and to improve it over time. Researchers say that the medium chain fatty acids in extra virgin coconut oil are an easy and long lasting fuel source for the body, plus they tend to scrub artery walls clean of dangerous plaque and cholesterol.
Why Blueberries?
Blueberries have long been a staple food for North Americans. They are naturally low in sugar and high in fiber. They also contain the antioxidant anthocyanins which researchers say is important for good health.
The Nuts and Berries Hemp and Coconut Shake
2-cups filtered water
1 organic banana
1 cored organic apple
1/4 cup ground organic raw almonds (or raw nut of your choice)
1 tablespoon ground raw pepitas (or any squash seed)
1 tablespoon raw organic sunflower seeds
2 tablespoons Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
1 scoop (1/4 cup) Hemp Protein
1 cup frozen blueberries (or other frozen dark berry)
1 tablespoon raw organic flax seeds (optional)
1-2 tablespoons organic cocoa powder (raw, unsweetened) (optional)
1-2 packets stevia supplement (optional)
2 tablespoons omega oil (Hemp oil OR flavored fish oil) (optional)
2 tablespoons full fat coconut cream (optional)
Grind nuts and flax seeds one kind at a time in clean coffee grinder. (Or almonds can be presoaked ahead of time and added directly to the blender at the beginning.)
Add all ingredients EXCEPT the frozen berries to the blender one at a time in order and blend until smooth. Then add the berries. (Also try frozen pineapple, YUM!) Serves one or two people.
(Disclaimer: Personally I`ve lost weight when drinking this shake twice per day, for breakfast and as a mid-afternoon snack. I follow it up with a glass of green drink (algae, fruit, and vegetable juice powder mix), or add a scoop of green drink into the shake. The first month I drank this shake twice per day I lost 30 pounds and have been losing about 2 to 5 pounds per month since. )
