Mike: Hello everyone. This is Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, here today with Jay Robb, founder of Jay Robb Enterprises. He's a true nutritional pioneer in bringing healthy, natural products to the marketplace for anyone concerned with nutrition or performance. Jay, thanks for joining me today, it's a pleasure.

Jay: It's my pleasure, Mike.

Mike: Now Jay, I am not only passionate about your products, I'm also one of your best customers -- I use them everyday. One of my favorite products is your Yammit Bar. Can you tell our readers what's in the Yammit bar?

Jay: I wanted to develop a bar that had sweet potatoes in it. We use our nuggets on the top, but it's made with dried organic fruits and organic almond butter. The almond butter buffers a release of carbohydrates into the system, so there's a slow release of the carbohydrates, all from natural sources -- sweet potatoes are one of the best, most nutritious vegetables on the planet. That tops off the bar, and gives it that unique taste I just love to come back to again and again. That's my favorite bar, too.

Mike: It's very nice, and for the sweetener there's a little bit if agave nectar in the bar.

Jay: Just a little bit to hold it together -- that's the only reason.

Mike: Well, it's wonderful. That's a great ingredient, folks. It's a low-glycemic sweetener, and combined with the low-glycemic effect of the sweet potatoes it gives a slow, steady release of carbohydrates that makes this a real energy bar, not a candy bar like you might get with some other so-called health bars out there.

Jay: And Mike, it tastes as good as candy bar, only without the funny aftertaste. It just has that sweet, rich taste that gives you a feeling of sustained energy.

Mike: Absolutely true. Now Jay, you've been in the field of health for many, many years, and you're an author -- what got you interested in being such a pioneer in this industry?

Jay: Well, I actually got into this for my own health issues. I developed reactive hypoglycemia, a pre-diabetic condition, in the 1970s, and it was caused by the consumption of the wrong types or too many carbohydrates combined with stress. My system was no longer handling carbohydrates well in the blood stream. I had high levels of sugar followed by excess production of insulin, which is a hormone that lowers blood sugar. It was just like being on a roller coaster. I would plunge down below normal. I felt horrible. It got me down so much that I just couldn't take it anymore. I just hit the floor, and that really sent me on the journey to find out what is the best way to eat, and to eventually develop products that I could utilize to sustain my energy without having blood sugar spikes.

Mike: Also, you've developed a lot of material about maintaining a healthy weight and keeping your blood sugar under control day-to-day through specific eating strategies. That's in some of your books. Do you want to elaborate on that a little bit?
Jay: I actually developed "The Fat Burning Diet" to stabilize my own blood sugar levels. That was the outcome of my own glycemic adventures. I found out there are right types of carbohydrates to eat and there are wrong types. I found out the body is designed to eat plenty of protein and the right types of fats, and it came at a time when everybody in America was eating no fat and high carbs -- that was the '80s. I was the lone voice saying let's get something more balanced here. And that's what we did. We went back to something that was balanced, and that was "The Fat Burning Diet."

Mike: So, you were talking about the nutritional benefits of healthy oils even before they were as popular as they are today, back when people said to have zero fat in your diet...

Jay: Not to toot my own horn, but I believe -- to the best of my knowledge -- that I was the first person to ever advocate the use of flaxseed oil in 1988. I put it into a protein drink and people said, "Why are you putting fat into a drink?" I said, "it's essential," and that's the story.

Mike: And now, your company produces some very high-quality protein products, some of the best tasting protein products on the market, and they have no refined sweeteners or chemical sweeteners of any kind. That's what originally attracted me to your company, and what made me a customer. Could you talk about your protein products?
