Sanctuary City New York spent over $5 billion in taxpayer money the previous fiscal year to provide services for ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS

The contracts New York City has signed to provide additional care for illegal immigrants flooding into the city have cost the Big Apple's taxpayers over $5 billion by the end of the fiscal year on Sept. 30.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has signed nearly 200 contracts worth $5,056,744,415 since declaring a state of emergency late last year, which allowed the City Hall to bypass competitive bidding processes to address the surge of so-called asylum seekers within the city limits. These contracts with corporations are meant to fund additional services for illegals in the city, including shelter and healthcare.

This revelation comes after Adams warned that the city's taxpayers will end up spending over $12 billion over three years to address the surge in illegal immigrants and will force City Hall to choose between the illegals and the city's actual residents. Adams pointed out that the city has helped over 120,000 migrants in New York City since spring, including around 60,000 migrants currently using city services. Each migrant is costing taxpayers approximately $383 a day to house, feed and provide medical care for.

"We are past our breaking point," said Adams in August in an appeal for more aid from the federal government. "If things do not change, our new estimates have us spending nearly $5 billion on this crisis in the current fiscal year."

Of the more than $5 billion New York City has spent on illegal immigrants, an analysis shows that most of the cash was spent setting up Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Centers across the city's five boroughs. These places act as shelters for migrants and can be hotels, landmarks, former schools, parking lots, sports fields, office buildings and even unused student dormitories that the city has taken over for illegals.

The biggest contract is with the Hotel Association of New York City, which represents around 100 of the nearly 150 hotels being used as migrant shelters. The contract with the organization had an original price tag of just $237 million, but the city has since extended that contract to August 2026, ballooning costs to a staggering $1.37 billion.

The city also pays for a variety of other services for illegals, including over $432 million in medical services, $355 million for food and over $140 million for their security. Providing assistance with asylum applications of the illegals alone is costing taxpayers $45 million.

Contracts with interpreters and integration services have cost the city $10 million this year. Providing the migrants with shower trailers and laundry services is costing over $27 million.

In the October 2021 to September 2022 fiscal year, the migrant crisis cost the city $1.4 billion. Adams warned that, if the crisis continues unabated, the city could end up spending over $6 billion for this fiscal year – or $12 billion in three fiscal.

"Twelve billion – $12 billion – that has to come from somewhere," warned Adams, who said that every city service except for the police could experience budget cuts because of the illegals.
