CIA faces lawsuit for facilitating “Dirty 51” letter that falsely discredited Hunter Biden’s “laptop from hell” as Russian DISINFO

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is being sued over unleashing the "Dirty 51" letter, in which a list of former intelligence officials sought to interfere in the election by describing the Hunter Biden laptop scandal as Russian disinformation.

The letter, titled "Public Statement on the Hunter Biden emails," claimed the material on Hunter’s hard drive "has all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation," although not one of them had seen it. Several intelligence officials signed the letter including former CIA Directors John Brennan, Leon Panetta, and Mike Hayden; former acting CIA Director Michael Morell; former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper; and others

According to authorities, they knew that the information from the laptop was really accurate at the time of the letter's release. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was also calling for social and legacy media outlets to censor reporting on the "laptop from hell" at the same time.

Moreover, Brennan has admitted that the infamous letter was created with a vested interest. He admitted to the House Judiciary Committee in a four-hour closed-door deposition that the letter was 'political,' Fox News reported.

Also back in May, a Republican report revealed that the CIA was actively involved in getting signatures for the letter which 'was a political operation to help elect' the elder Biden in November 2020. The piece also accused Morell and the Biden campaign of conspiring to quickly get the letter approved.

The House investigative report noted that former CIA analyst David Cariens, one of the statement's signatories "disclosed to the Committees that a CIA employee affiliated with the agency's Prepublication Classification Review Board (PCRB) informed him of the existence of the statement and asked if he would sign it." The said employee allegedly asked Cariens if he would sign the statement, to which he agreed.

"The Committees have requested additional material from the CIA, which has ignored the request to date," the report continued. And now, the government watchdog Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit on Aug. 17 after it failed to receive requested documents from the agency regarding the internal crafting of the letter.

According to the organization, "In a May 10, 2023 report, the House Judiciary Committee revealed that on Octo. 19, 2020, three days before the second presidential debate between President Donald Trump and Democrat candidate Joe Biden, Morell sent the PCRB the finalized letter for review, calling it a 'rush job,' and quickly secured its approval." Morell, identified as a potential CIA director under Biden, said he organized the letter to "help Vice President Biden … because I wanted him to win the election."

The GOP report also revealed that Clapper provided editorial advice to "strengthen the verbiage."

Moreover, the paper detailed how the CIA coordinated with the Biden campaign to shop the letter around and gain press coverage. Former CIA senior adviser Nick Shapiro drafted a media pitch that he sent to several outlets including the Washington Post, the Associated Press and POLITICO, the latter being the first to publish the story.

Current White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates, who was Biden's campaign rapid response director at the time, was included in emails from Shapiro regarding the push to disseminate the letter to the media. Morell: Blinken "triggered" interest in rushing release of "Dirty 51" letter

During a sworn testimony before the House Judiciary Committee, Morell said that an Oct. 17 call with Secretary of State Antony Blinken had absolutely triggered his interest in coordinating the letter. Blinken had, meanwhile, insisted that he was not behind the infamous letter because he doesn't "do politics."

"One of the great benefits of this job is that I don't do politics, don't engage in it. But with regard to that letter, it wasn't my idea, I didn't ask for it, didn't solicit it,'" Blinken claimed on Fox News.

Asked by the news outlet if he accepted the laptop's legitimacy after most major news organizations have verified it, the secretary of state said he would not talk politics.

"I'm not engaging in politics. I've got a lot on my agenda. Some things that we just talked about, trying to help the Russian aggression against engaging with our allies, and partners around the world and dealing with some of the challenges posed by China. We have a situation now in Sudan, this has fully occupied my time."
